26,000 saplings will be planted on election day in Pratapgarh

Prayagraj: In a new initiative, officials of Pratapgarh district administration have joined hands with an NGO – Paryavaran Sena – to promote a green voting campaign under which at least ten saplings would be planted at each polling booth on election day on May 25 by the elderly or who are voting for the first time. “The forest department has ensured that around 26,000 saplings are planted in 2,600 polling booths. The government has worked out all modalities,” Chief Development Officer (Pratapgarh) Navneet Sehara told TOI. The government is also appealing to voters, especially youth, to first cast their votes and then plant a sapling in their area to increase green cover. has also sought the help of several other organizations,” he said. Paryavaran Sena chief Ajay Krantikari told TOI: “We are targeting around 36,000 youth – the first voters in the district – to plant saplings in and around their localities with an aim to increase green cover.” “We have appointed paryavaran fighters at booth level in all districts to strengthen the campaign and women will play a leading role in rural parts of the districts,” Krantikari said.
