I feel a unique sense of anticipation when a new book comes out from an author whose work I especially love. It could be someone I’ve read all my life or a new author on their second novel, it doesn’t matter. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll be in low-grade mourning for a while, even though I know I’ll read the next book in case this is a blunder.

But there is almost no greater joy than when I finish a book by one of those authors and know that I will be recommending it at every possible opportunity for the rest of the year. I have my first one of 2024 due to start this week.
