Chris O’Hara on how The Fall Guy represents stunt performers

Chris O’Hara shares all the ins and outs of the work that goes into designing the stunts in the new action/comedy film, The autumn manand how the film accurately portrays stunt performers.

“I think when people think of stunts, they see the big stunts that are in the movies. They don’t understand how you got to that process,” O’Hara, who was given the first-ever title of stunt designer, exclusively shared We weekly.

O’Hara noted that he and his team “work hand-in-hand with the writers, director, other department heads and production designer” to “create what the final scene for the stunt will be,” and said he hopes his title change will serve as a tool to “teach people that what we do is more on a bigger scale than just the cool stunts.”

He adds: “It’s about the design, it’s about the technology, it’s about the safety, all the steps it takes to see what’s exciting.”

In the film – based on the 1980s television show of the same name – Ryan Gosling stars as Colt Seavers, a stunt double for Hollywood hotshot Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor Johnson) working on the set of ex-girlfriend Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) blockbuster movie. After Tom disappears, Colt finds himself at the center of a criminal conspiracy involving the missing actor and sets out on an action-packed journey to find him.

“The great thing about making this film was that we had that David Leach as our director, and David and I grew up in the business together,” he explained. “And so there are all these little nuances in the film world. We really want to be true to our profession. It’s all kind of a real atmosphere. And you really feel – I don’t know when Ryan plays that character. I really feel like he’s really playing a stuntman. He really embraced it and he did a great job.”

O’Hara – whose training as a collegiate gymnast helped propel his career as a stunt designer – also shared it Us that Gosling, 43, had “four doubles” on the set: Logan Vacationwho grew up racing motocross; Ben Jenkinsa parkour and freerunning expert; Troy Brownson of “one of the greatest stunt performers in the industry” Bob Brown And Justin Eatona ‘great martial artist’.
