NORTH WALES WOMEN’S LEAGUE PLAYOFF FINAL

Something has to be done when the top two Tier 3 teams in North Wales women’s football face off on Sunday.

Champions of the North Wales League East division Flinttown United will face West title winners Pwllheli to decide who is number one.

Both teams have set invincible records in their respective competitions this season

FLINTCITY UNITED

In just their second season, Flint topped the East table with a record of: played 12 won 12 drawn 0 lost 0 goals for 66 goals against 10 points 30.
Elliott Hale’s side have won each of the seventeen league and cup games played this season. Their 38 cup goals were scored over five matches, giving them a total of 104 in everything.
They have actually won 19 games, having also won the last two games of 2022/2023.
The last team they lost to? It was on April 30, 2023 in the North Wales League (back when it was a single division league) and the opposition was…..Pwllheli. The score 4-1.

CPD PWLLHELI

Their hugely experienced team includes several players who have competed at Tier 1 and 2 levels in Wales, as well as T3.
Three of their players have featured in a Welsh Cup final, while one is a Tier 2 champion.
Pwllheli topped the West Division this season 10 wins out of 10, scoring 55 goals and conceding only seven.
In 16 matches in all competitions, Pwllheli have won 14, with a total of 75 goals. They have not conceded a single goal in their last five games and are on a run of eleven straight wins.
Like Flint, they are in the semi-finals of the Betty Pickering Cup, where they will meet the Silkwomen again.

MEET THE SQUADS

FLINTCITY UNITED

Becky Bott

Unfortunately, he suffered a broken finger late in the season, but played in ten league games and only conceded seven goals, keeping six clean sheets.
Has gradually returned to action and could be ready for the play-off at the end of the season.

Sinead Beck

Primarily a field player, she showed her versatility by putting on the gloves in recent matches after regular keeper Becky Bott suffered a broken finger and has done an excellent job between the sticks. Formerly at Holywell.

Emily Edwards

Former Holywell defender who has been fantastic at the back for the Silkwomen this season. Made thirteen appearances for Flint since joining the club last summer.

Chloe Hughes

Eldest of three sisters on the team.
Fast defender and always present in the competition. Model of consistency at the back.

Charlotte Walters

Tall, solid defender who has done as much as anyone to ensure Flint only conceded ten goals in twelve league games.

Taylia Chaloner

A really consistent defender who played in 18 games for Flint last season and has played in 14 games this season.
She scored a few goals in the Betty Pickering Cup and epitomizes the great Flint spirit.

Daisy Hughes

Daisy, the middle sister of the Hughes trio between Chloe and Rosie, is a hard-working, reliable midfielder who can score goals and is highly regarded for her passing and assists.
Has scored eight goals this season and six in 2022-2023.

Ruby McGilloway (c)

Captain majestic who can do everything: score goals, make great passes and run all day long.
Forms a great partnership in the middle of the pitch with Rosie Hughes. Her brother Brady plays for Cymru North champions Holywell Town.

Jennifer Haynes

Great attacking midfielder who has played in every league match, scoring five goals and providing six assists.
First official hat-trick for the team achieved in an 11-2 thrashing of Denbigh.
Previously played for Connah’s Quay Nomads and was part of their brilliant 2019/20 team that reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup under Sara Hilton.

Tegan Crockett

What a signing! Has scored 18 goals in 17 games since joining from Rhyl 1879 at the start of the season.
Her astonishing volley against Northop Hall was a goal of the season. Great player up front.

Rosie Hughes

Midfield magician who is currently the club’s all-time top scorer with 28 goals in 37 appearances.
This season she has scored 18, some of them spectacular. Great for watching the ball in full flight.

Zoe Stopford

Has scored an impressive 26 goals in 16 games for a team she joined at the start of the season.
Great finisher, also stands out in her linking play and passing. Consistent goalscorer wherever she has played.

Ruby Hastings

A truly great addition to the squad this season; her pace, assists and goals make her one of the stars of the campaign.
Still just 17, she played in all the league matches, helping Flint win the East Division title with a 100% record. Has scored a total of six times in seventeen appearances. More ‘Haste’, certainly NOT less speed 🙂

Jasmine Edwards

Exciting striker who has scored five goals in 13 games in all competitions this season. Mainly used as an impact substitute and has proven to be very effective.

Olivia Owens

Made her debut in the recent 6-0 Betty Pickering Cup win over Llanystumdwy and is a welcome addition to the squad.

Natalie Bennett

Experienced former Nomads player who has made four appearances as a substitute for Flint this season.

Charlotte Xena Rose

Former Holywell player, great personality in the dressing room and a great help to the younger element.
Six substitutes, most towards the end of the season in the final push for the title.

CPD PWLLHELI

Sara Williams

This season he joined Pwllheli and was excellent in goal and in the outfield when required.
Won the tier 2 Genero Adran North title with Llandudno in 2021-2022 and also played for Colwyn Bay, Llandudno Junction, Caernarfon Town, Mountain Rangers, Amlwch Town and Bangor City. Absolute legend of the game in North Wales.

Marsli Owen

Never give up. Plays mainly as a left back. She has improved every season and is getting stronger.

Charley Davies

Long. solid central defender guaranteed to win aerial duels. She is both strong and tactical and has a very good knowledge of the game. Also effective in midfield.

Jini Owen-Hughes

One to watch. Seventeen-year-old sensation who has scored 19 goals in 14 appearances this season.
Previously an excellent player at CPD Merched Tref Caernarfon.

Magician Hughes (c)

Captain fantastic in midfield who has scored six goals in her last four games.
She is fantastic on the ball and has been a loyal servant of Pwllheli for a number of seasons.

Lois Thomas

Few can match her goalscoring record. This super-fast attacker is only 24 and has already scored 15 goals this season.
She scored more than 30 times for Pwllheli in 2017/18, when she was just 17, and must have scored around 100 goals for the club by now.

Zioned Bohana

A very strong defender who has been a standout player for the likes of Caernarfon Town and Llandudno in recent seasons.
Returned to Pwllheli after becoming a mother and has remained the same great player she has always been.

Leanne Rees-Hughes

Was a winger for Pwllheli for many years, but has flourished as a left back in the last two seasons. Strong, fast and still likes to run up the wing to shoot the ball into the penalty area.

Stacey Sansome

Solid all-rounder who works tirelessly from start to finish. An asset to the team in midfield. Her impact and influence on the team is reflected in the fact that she is joint-top in the league in assists. Strong with the ball at his feet and in a tackle.

Sian Moore

One of the most talented defenders around, solid in all aspects of the game at the back.
A true Pwllheli stalwart, Sian is often singled out as one of the best players on the pitch.
She comes from a football family and has played in all of Pwllheli’s league matches this season.

Katie Bowe

Legend of North Wales football, known for her sublime free kick goals, long range shooting and passing skills.
Was outstanding for Llandudno in 2015/16 and scored a stunner in the Welsh Cup final, making her the first ever woman to be nominated for Sgorio’s Goal of the Month.
After taking time to become a mother, she is back to her best and recently scored a hat-trick.

Catherine Thomas

Has scored in a Welsh Cup final for Llandudno and was the top goalscorer with 38 as Caernarfon Town won the North Wales league and cup double in 2016-17.
Great on the ball, difficult to dispossess, has a great shot and since returning to football at Pwllheli she has been as great as ever.

Hayley Rees-Jones

Plays almost anywhere she is needed. She is a tall player who wins all the balls in the air, whether in defense or in the penalty area on an attacking corner. She is strong and gives everything every time.

Erica Jones

Voted The largest ever in North Wales in a 2021 survey of its current and former players.
Manager and a rock for Pwllheli for many years, although she had a short spell for Caernarfon Town in the Welsh Premier.
Sensational manager and player who really puts the team at the heart of what she does. The players say this play-off final is for her.

Berry Roberts

Getting back into this season after a few years away from college.
Another powerful midfielder who can also play well in the number 10 position. She can adapt her game to the players around her, has a strong attack and scores a good number of goals.

Lowri Hughes

Just returned after becoming a mother last year. A phenomenal player who immediately returns, as if she had never been away.
She is a stylish defender with great ball skills and tackling ability. She has also been a regular goalscorer over the years and can adapt to most positions.

Keely Jones

Powerful midfielder who joined Pwllheli this season after quite a few years away from football. Strong with the ball at her feet and an essential member of the team.
