James E. Silkwood (Jim) passed away on April 28, 2024 at the Spokane Veterans Administration Community Living Center after an eight-year battle with colon cancer. His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Celia, with whom he moved to Spokane, Washington, in 2021; son Courtney Silkwood, wife Cindy and grandson Colby; son Brannon Silkwood; granddaughter Madison and grandson Laken. Jim was very proud of his sons and their achievements. Jim served 20 years in the military, both active duty and reserves, and was deployed to Iraq during Desert Storm. He held several jobs over the course of his life, but the one he was most proud of was Groundskeeping at the Fayetteville National Cemetery, where his ashes will be interred at an unspecified date. Jim and Celia were fortunate to travel together and the military took Jim abroad as well as to the United States. He was able to fulfill a lifelong dream: a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He eventually owned several bikes, but his favorite was an Ultra Limited that he named Scarlet. He and Celia enjoyed riding their motorcycles through the Ozarks and he rode Scarlet to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally one year. Drive safe on your next trip, Jim. We love you. A special thank you to the entire staff at the Spokane VA Community Living Center/Hospice for providing excellent care to Jim with both kindness and dignity.
