Ace Director Vetrimaran’s IIFC signs MoU with producer Ishari K Ganesh’s Vels University

The International Institute of Film and Culture (IIFC), founded by director Vetrimaaran, is known for offering free courses to socially and economically backward students since 2021. Now, the top director’s institute has chosen to sign an MoU with producer Ishari’s Vels University Ganesh to take three film industry related courses. Read on to know what the MoU is about.

Director Vetrimaran‘s The International Institute for Film and Culture (IIFC) has now signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the producer Ishari K. Ganesh‘s Vels University, where courses such as B.Sc Film Studies (three years), M.Sc. Film and Cultural Studies (two years) and a PG Diploma in Media Skills (one year) are offered free of charge to students.

Speaking at the MoU signing event, director Vetrimaaran said, “When I started my film career, I was able to learn cinema by working as an assistant director with a big director on a minimum salary.

On IIFC

“Later, I was able to learn cinema by joining film-related educational institutions. And short films helped us prove our talent. Professor Rajanayagam and I discussed ten years ago that everyone should get free film-related education. Only after that, we founded the International Institute for Film and Culture.

“Earlier, we received the applications from students and analyzed their social and economic conditions and interviewed them to see if they were suitable. It was our good friend Late. Vetri Duraisamy who reserved a small part of his IAS academy for the institution .And he was the one who made me pitch the idea for this collaboration to Ishari K Ganesh. He also assured Vels’ support in all our endeavors without reservation.

“We started this initiative today with the intention of providing students with access to courses related to the film industry so that they can learn how to handle the media,” he said.

Priority for socially and economically disadvantaged students

During a media interaction, Vetrimaran, while answering a question, said, “In IIFC, students get free education and food. Normally I don’t use that word. But we wanted Vels University to collaborate with us. In just one phone call, Ishari. K.Ganesh sealed the deal. We are giving priority to the socially and economically disadvantaged students, especially the non-institutionalized students.”

“This agreement will be further expanded considering the support given by the students to the program and the situation going forward,” Isari.K.Ganesh said along with Vetimaaran.
