Actor Sobhita Dhulipala is earning praise for her performance in Monkey Man and promoting her recent release. In an interview, Sobhita spoke about dealing with casual objectification. She also shared why she reduced the amount of time she spent on Instagram.

Reducing people to keywords

Talking about “accidental objectification,” Sobhita said, “We are very good at reducing people to keywords. This is a ‘hot person’, this is a ‘cute person’, this is a ‘funny person’. This endless desire to flatten out complexity and put people into one bucket only serves a PR story. It’s actually quite oppressive for the person themselves. I’ve been told so many times that I need to be more ‘tasty’ or less ‘unpredictable,’ and that continues to amuse me.”

I don’t want to become insensitive

About spending less time on Instagram, Sobhita said: “It’s because I’m very sensitive. If I were to say that I am not influenced by what people say, that would be a lie. I am influenced by what people say and I would like to remain that way. I don’t want to become insensitive. I want to feel everything. I’d rather be broken a million times than be insensitive. So limiting exposure is one way to address that.”
