Hazelwood College Debates win the top prize in the Concern Debates final

A POLISHED troupe of debaters from Hazelwood College in Drumcollogher won the top prize at the All-Ireland Concern Debates, held at the Helix in Dublin on May 2.

The winning team of Aisling O’Connor, Amy O’Gorman, Regina Burke and Lucy O’Gorman defeated competitors from Ursuline Secondary School in Thurles to face off in a debate on the great challenge of achieving world peace in the 21st century.

Congratulations poured in from far and wide, including from Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times journalist and Broadford man Malachy Browne, uncle of Regina Burke, who said he was “very proud” of his award-winning niece.
