President Michael D Higgins issues a statement to the RTÉ broadcaster following his retirement

The President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, has paid tribute to legendary RTÉ broadcaster Bryan Dobson following his retirement from RTÉ after 37 years as a broadcaster on Irish television.

The statement released by the President on X reads as follows:

‘It is a pleasure to wish Bryan Dobson all the best as he begins a new chapter in his life, but above all to thank him for the important contribution he has made to Irish journalism, and to public broadcasting in particular .
Bryan’s journalistic integrity has been evident throughout his distinguished career spanning more than 37 years on RTÉ’s flagship news and current affairs programmes, an example of public service broadcasting at its best.

“Bryan’s respectful, reassuring and calm demeanor during his interviews, including during many crucial public moments in Irish life, will have been appreciated, and indeed greatly missed, by an Irish viewing and listening public.”

“May I join Bryan’s colleagues and many friends, on behalf of the Irish public, in wishing him every health and happiness in his future.”
