Former Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, who was ousted after months of infighting between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki, has revealed that he was forced to replace him in 2016.

Shaibu, who incurred the full wrath of the incumbent and former director, shared that the country needs to make some changes in the amount of power shared between state governors and their deputies.

He said deputy governors should be given freedom and independence similar to that of the vice president. He suggested the federal government handle the facilities, including security credentials and other office benefits.

He revealed that he had sent a proposal to the National Assembly to this effect.

Shaibu, who aired his grievances and personal plans ahead of the upcoming governorship election as a PUNCH reporter, revealed that he is willing to go to the tail of the world to see Obaseki humiliated.

He said he never really liked the idea of ​​Obaseki when he was presented as the favorite choice in 2016, but the influence of former Governor Adams Oshiomole, who was adamant about his candidacy, swayed thoughts.

He apologized to the former governor, with whom he engaged in a war of words during Obaseki’s 2020 re-election.

Shaibu said even if it means joining the rival All Progressive Congress.
