More than 16,000 pounds of ground beef sold at Walmart was recalled due to E. coli risk

More than 16,000 pounds of ground beef produced by Cargill Meat Solutions and sold at Walmart has been recalled due to concerns about possible E. coli contamination.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the contaminated beef was produced and distributed to Walmart stores in the eastern U.S. on April 26 and 27.

To date, there have been no confirmed reports of illnesses linked to the beef products, the USDA said. Cargill said it has launched a voluntary recall “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Pennsylvania-based food distributor became concerned about possible contamination after discovering that “previously separated products had been inadvertently used in the production of ground beef,” the agency said.

The ground beef has been sold at Walmart locations in Connecticut, Washington, DC, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New York.

The Cargill products subject to a recall include:

  • £2.25. plastic-wrapped containers of “93% lean 7% fat, all-natural lean ground beef”
  • £1.33. plastic-wrapped containers containing four “prime rib steak burgers patties”
  • £2.25. plastic-wrapped containers of “85% lean, 15% fat, all-natural angus premium ground beef”
  • £2.25. plastic-wrapped containers of “80% lean, 20% fat, all-natural ground beef”
  • £1.33. plastic-wrapped containers containing four “80% lean, 20% fat, all-natural ground beef patties”
  • £1.33. plastic-wrapped containers containing four “90% lean and 10% fat, all-natural sirloin steak patties”

USDA advises consumers to throw away contaminated products or return them to the place of purchase.
