Mercury crosses 40°C or more at 25 places in Odisha; Boudh, Nuapada Hottest at 44°C

Bhubaneswar: Heat waves prevailed in Odisha on Saturday. While the debilitating heat showed little relief in the coastal areas of the state, areas in the western part of the state scorched.

According to the evening weather bulletin from the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as many as 25 places here recorded a maximum daytime temperature of 40°C or more. With a maximum temperature of 44°C, Boudh and Nuapada were the hottest places in the state.

The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded maximum temperatures of 39°C and 39.7°C respectively.

The IMD in its maximum temperature forecast has said that there will be no major change in the maximum daily temperature in the next two days and thereafter it will fall by 3-5°C at many places in Odisha district.

The IMD has further predicted that the heat wave will subside from May 6 and thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds are likely to occur over the districts of Odisha.
