Wexford secured their first Leinster senior hurling championship victory over Galway in eight attempts with a resounding 1-28 to 0-23 victory at Chadwicks Wexford Park this afternoon.

Without a win in this year’s Bob O’Keeffe Cup race, coming into it after a draw with Dublin and defeat to Antrim, Keith Rossiter’s men surged in front 0-9 to 0-5 after the first 20 minutes and would then keep a two. -point lead at the half.

Rory O’Connor’s goal from outside the 21-yard line marked the perfect restart for the Slaneysiders and from there Mark Fanning, Cian Byrne and O’Connor would add points that were different at seven in the 48th minute.

Galway got points back through Evan Niland, Tom Monaghan and Padraic Mannion but could not close the gap as the hosts secured their crucial victory through scores from O’Connor and skipper Lee Chin.
