Following the release of Drake’s ‘Family Matters’ aimed at Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, ASAP Rocky and Rick Ross, and Lamar’s vicious response song ‘meet the grahams’, the internet was on fire.

Fans immediately noticed that J. Cole may have been right to withdraw from the Hip Hop Royal Rumble. At midnight on April 5, J. Cole dropped his surprise project, May delete laterwhich had a similar title to his tour vlogs released earlier this year.

The 12-song offering packed plenty of punch, but “7 Minute Drill” caught listeners’ attention because it seemed to respond to Lamar’s recent jokes. On the song, he rapped, “Your first s**t was classic, your last s**t was tragic/ Your second s**t put niggas to sleep, but they gassed it/ Your third s**t It was huge, and that was your highlight,” he continued in the opening verse. “The rap beef ain’t no more real than the stuff I seen in Cumberland / He averages one hard verse like every 30 months or something.”

Two days later, on Sunday, April 7, J. Cole publicly apologized for “7 Minute Drill” during his headlining performance at the Dreamville Festival. For the festival crowd, Cole shared“I’m so proud of (May delete later), except for one part. It’s some of that shit that makes me feel like, “Man, that’s the stupidest s**t I’ve done in my fucking life, right?” And I know that’s not what a lot of people want to hear.” He further explained that he received phone calls and text messages pressuring him to respond to Lamar.

Cole continued, “That disturbs my damn peace. So what I want to say here tonight is while I’m doing that and in that s**t, trying to find a little angle and downplaying this nigga’s fucking catalog and his greatness, I want To say now tonight: how many people think Kendrick Lamar is one of the biggest assholes to ever touch a microphone? Dreamville, you all love Kendrick Lamar, correct? Like me.”

One fan said: “No, this nigga J. Cole saw every possible outcome of this rap battle like Doctor Strange (laughs at me).” Someone else claimed, “Kendrick Lamar got too much information son. J. Cole DEFINITELY stopped the beef before he revealed his dreads are fake, he hid three kids, and he developed a gluten allergy or something (laughs at me).”

One user said: “I’m now convinced someone told it J. Cole This isn’t just competitive rap, Kendrick hates Drake (really) and wants to get out of the way. I’m happy about it J. Cole Let’s not pressure him into this kind of stress, (laugh out loud).”
