Rosie O’Donnell is bringing back her TV And just like that

The gay comedian made the announcement via Instagram this week about her return to television.

Her appearance on the program marks her first return to television since starring in American Gigolo in 2022.

Rosie O’Donnell posted a sneaky photo of the upcoming script on Instagram this week, revealing her character’s name and the name of an upcoming episode.

“Here comes mary #andjustlikethat @hbo,” she wrote, followed by a photo of her new haircut.

The image for episode 301 was titled “Outlook Good”, which also indicates that O’Donnell will appear in the first episode of the season.

An HBO spokesperson later confirmed that O’Donnell has joined the show, but it is unclear in what capacity she will appear in the upcoming third season. Her appearance in the first episode could indicate a long-term appearance in the season.

Will Mary Che replace Diaz?

The announcement that Rosie O’Donnell is joining the cast And just like that follows the news in recent months that two main characters have left the program.

It was recently announced that Karen Pittman, who played the character Nya Wallace, would not be returning for the upcoming season.

But the announcement that a major queer character was leaving the show got everyone talking.

The much-discussed character of Che Diaz, played by Sara Ramirez, was confirmed as a new departure to the program several months ago.

Che Diaz played the non-binary love interest of Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon) on the program, with the two breaking up in season two.

The addition of Rosie O’Donnell could be a possible new love interest for Miranda.

O’Donnell has previously played queer characters in her on-screen appearances. During her time on Will & Grace, she played a lesbian mother to Jack’s son.

If she follows suit And just like that it seems likely that this could be the direction in which her character moves.

Introducing O’Donnell as a love interest for the recently queer character of Miranda could be a welcome addition to the show’s story, especially for Miranda’s character.

Many fans reacted negatively to the character of Che Diaz in the program and may react much more positively to Miranda exploring a relationship with new character Mary, played by O’Donnell.

With season three of And just like that Filming begins now and is not expected to air until 2025.
