Stage 4 — Tuesday, May 7
Acqui Terme to Andora
Distance: 190 km (188 miles)
Profile: Hilly stage

Stage 4: One climb before the midpoint should help build up time for the early break

Although the race from Acqui Terme to Andora on stage 4 of the Giro d’Italia delivers 1,700 meters of elevation gain over 190 km, the profile is one that could result in another opportunity for the sprinters. A gentle climb from the start to the sprint in Calizzano (km 79.2) is followed by the only climb of the day, the Cat. 3 Colle del Melogno.

Located 102km from the finish line, the descents and then flat roads after the summit should make it difficult for any early breakaway trying to fend off the sprinter teams. The race should be breathtaking to watch as it follows the Ligurian coastline from Milan-San Remo and includes the uncategorised La Primavera climb from Capo Mele in the final 3km.

The last 800 meters are completely straight and flat, which could herald the second big bunch sprint of the Giro.
