Impaired driver caught going 100 mph on Highway 11

Huntsville OPP have charged a novice motorist with driving under the influence after he was stopped for speeding on Highway 11.

It was just before midnight on May 2, while police were conducting speed checks. The vehicle was stopped because it was traveling at a speed of 164 kilometers per hour in a posted 100 zone.

After speaking to the driver, police suspected drink driving and a request for an Approved Screening Device was made. As a result, the suspect was arrested and taken to the detachment for further investigation.

Zackary Smith30, of Huntsville is charged with:

  • Operation during impairment – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive a motor vehicle – excessive speed
  • Novice driver – BAC above zero

The driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Smith is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 18.
