Chiefs sign 68th overall WHL Prospects Pick D Rhett Sather

Spokane, Wash. – The Spokane Chiefs are proud to announce that defenseman Rhett Sather has signed a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Sather was selected in the fourth round (68th overall) of the WHL Prospects Draft last year.

“We are pleased that Rhett has made the decision to continue his development with the Spokane Chiefs organization,” said Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley. “His edgework and overall skating, puck skills and feel for the game will allow him to be an excellent defender both offensively and defensively and will add to the strong group of 2008-born players who have committed to the Chiefs.”

Sather, a 6-foot-1 blueliner from Cochrane, Alberta, spent the 2023-2024 season with .

In October, he was named MVP of the Bauer U17 Invitation after the Calgary Hockey Academy won the tournament and in February he was also named to the PCHA U17 Winter Classic’s All Tournament Team.

Before being drafted by the Chiefs, Sather recorded 29 points (6G-23A) in 32 games with the Airdrie Xtreme U15 AAA team in 2022-2023.

“I am extremely excited to join the Chiefs organization,” Sather said. “It’s a great team, a great city and great things are coming.”

Sather joins fellow 2008-born signed prospects F Brody Gillespie (1st overall, US Priority Draft), F Mathis Preston (3rd overall, WHL Prospects Draft), G Carter Esler (22nd overall, WHL Prospects Draft), D Kaden Allan (24th overall, WHL Prospects Draft) and F Cohen Harris (47th overall, WHL Prospects Draft).

He will be eligible to join the Chiefs as a full-time player for the first time during the 2024-2025 season.
