The Spider city star defined what it meant to be “80s famous” in a recent interview to help PEOPLE celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“We were louder. We didn’t have social media, we didn’t have any of that nonsense. We were just famous. Left to our own devices. And it was a great time.” he said.

Fox also told PEOPLE that talent played a big role in fame in the 1980s.

“We used our butts and our acting muscles and watched other actors and sat around with other actors talking about acting and talking about it,” he explained. ‘And now you have people saying: who’s your jersey? What is your sweater that you wear? And what is that dance move? And you are the most famous person in the world.”
