Baseball recap: Willmar Cardinals capture doubleheader sweep – West Central Tribune

MARSHALL – The Willmar baseball team scored a doubleheader against Marshall on Monday at Legion Memorial Field.

The Cardinals won 3-1 in Game 1 and then won Game 2 5-4.

Marshall is 4-1 in the Big South Conference and now 8-3 overall. Willmar is 4-4 in the Central Lakes Conference and now 6-4 overall.

In Game 1, Dylan Staska pitched a complete game. The senior struck out five, walked three and allowed three hits and one earned run. Braeden Fagerlie hit a three-run home run to give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning.

In Game 2, Mason Thole went 3-for-4 with a run and two RBIs and Fagerlie drove in two more runs with a double. Connor Smith and Jordan Ellingson combined on a two-hitter, with Ellingson going 3-1/3 in the final to get the win.

Willmar’s next game is scheduled against the St. Cloud Crush at Bill Taunton Stadium on Thursday at 5 p.m.

New London-Spicer scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Litchfield at Beier Field in Regal.

Brayden Skindelien went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and two RBIs for the Wildcats. Carson McCain homered and drove in two runs for NLS. He was hit twice by a pitch.

For Litchfield, Alex Medina went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

NLS plays Paynesville on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. NLS then has a doubleheader scheduled with Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted in Spicer on Thursday at 4 p.m. Litchfield hosts a doubleheader with Annandale at Optimist Park on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa scored six runs in the seventh inning to defeat Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City at Kingery Field in Atwater.

Luke Dingmann went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs, walked twice and scored four times with four RBIs for BBE. Luke Illie went 2-for-3 with two runs, two walks and an RBi for the Jaguars. Jack Lundberg went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBis for BBE.

For ACGC, Tucker Johnson went 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, a run and four RBIs. Isaiah Renne went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Regan Elton went 2-for-3 with two runs and a walk.

BBE next plays at Royalton on Thursday at 6pm. ACGC hosts Eden Valley-Watkins at Kingery Field on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Josiah Utsch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs, scoring Abe Brunner as the Bulldogs earned a walk-off win against Eden Valley-Watkins in Paynesville.

Paynesville seniors Isaac Lieser and Brayden Pung led the way. Lieser, a senior, went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double, and added two RBIs and one run. Pung, a, went 2-for-3 with a double and one run.

Alex Panitzke threw a five-inning one-hitter as Minnewaska won big at Melrose.

Panitzke struck out seven and walked one.

Noah Jensen went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, a walk, two runs and three RBIs for the Lakers. Jack Maerjus, Levi Johnson and Dylan Alexander also all scored two goals for Minnewaska.

Breydon Dobmeier scored the Dutch goal.

Trevor Smith recorded 12 strikeouts and no walks in 6-2/3 innings of work to help Tracy-Milroy-Balaton to a victory against MACCRAY at Lilleberg Field in Raymond.

Ashton Squires led the Panthers’ offense, going 2-for-3 with a double, adding one run and an RBI. Alex Schuh hit a triple for TMB.

For the Wolverines, Angel Mendoza went 2-for-3. Ethan Strommer and Garrett Struxness both doubled.

The Blackjacks got seven combined scoreless innings from Nathan Hansen and Tygan Long in their win over Canby in Dawson.

Hansen, who got the start, threw 5-1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and one walk, allowing four hits. Long struck out three in 1-2/3 relief innings.

Beau Johnson, Kameron Sather and Blake Thompson each scored two goals for the Blackjacks.
