PDI-P is considering Anies and Ahok as gubernatorial candidates for Jakarta – Jakarta

A senior politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) has said that two former Jakarta governors, Basuki Thahaja “Ahok” Purnama and Anies Baswedan, are among the individuals considered as gubernatorial candidates for the Jakarta regional elections in November.

PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto acknowledged that Anies and Ahok were among the names suggested by the party’s rank and file.

“We are a democratic party with an Indonesian character, so these names came from the bottom up,” Hasto said, as quoted by Antara.

However, Hasto could not guarantee whether the two politicians would appear on the ballot paper for the Jakarta gubernatorial election in November.

“I’m sorry, we are still finalizing the process. We cannot announce it now,” he said.

Anies was president in the February 14 presidential election and finished in second place after receiving more than 26 percent of the votes.
