ARR’s documentary ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ to have world premiere at IFFM 2024

MUMBAI: Oscar- and Grammy-award winning composer AR Rahman’s documentary ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’, directed by Rohit Gupta, will have its world premiere at the 2024 Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) in Australia.

Speaking about the film’s premiere at the festival, Rahman said, “The film is very special for us as it sheds light on the beautiful state of Nagaland and highlights the rich cultural and musical history it holds. Rohit and I are looking forward to the premiere and showcasing it to the audience in Melbourne.”

‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ follows the Nagaland journey of rhythm and sound, tracing the evolution of music across cultures, tribes and generations.

‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ will premiere at the festival, where it will also compete for the Best Documentary award.

“I feel the story has global relevance along with the incredible healing power of music. The film has been painstakingly crafted over more than five years and I am looking forward to hearing the audience’s response and experiencing the rich cultural and musical tapestry of Nagaland Especially to hear a completely new sound from India,” said Gupta.

The film marks Rahman’s second major foray into filmmaking as a producer, with his previous production ’99 Songs’ premiering at the Busan International Film Festival.

“When we saw the documentary, we knew there was something special about it. We are thrilled that the film will have its world premiere at IFFM and that Dr. Rahman and filmmaker Rohit Gupta will present the film to our audience,” says Mitu Bhowmick Lange, Director of the IFFM Festival.

‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ is directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by AR Rahman, with Abu Metha, Adam J. Greig, Theja Meru, Rohit Gupta, Sheila Houlahan and Rohhit Daas serving as executive producers.

The festival, which is celebrating its 15th year, begins on August 15, with the curtains coming down on August 25. The festival, an annual celebration, is presented by the Victorian Government.
