Lorcan O’Connor joins the UK Insolvency Service Board

  • Chartered accountant Lorcan O’Connor has joined the Insolvency Service Board as a non-executive member
  • Mr O’Connor was the founder of the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) and led the organization for seven years
  • He joined the UK Insolvency Service Board on April 2 and was inducted on May 2, 2024

Lorcan O’Connor, founder and former leader of the Insolvency Service of Ireland, has joined the Board of the UK Insolvency Service as a non-executive member.

Mr O’Connor, who founded the Insolvency Service of Ireland (ISI) in 2012, joined the UK Insolvency Service Board on 2 April 2024 and was installed on 2 May 2024. The Board is the agency’s primary decision-making body and is responsible for the agency’s long-term success

Mr O’Connor said:

I look forward to working with my board colleagues and the great team at the Insolvency Service.

I hope that my twenty years of experience in both corporate and personal insolvency will help deliver the Insolvency Service’s comprehensive transformation plans and undertake a strategic review of personal insolvency options.

Mr O’Connor led the Insolvency Service of Ireland between 2012 and 2019. The ISI is responsible for the management of bankruptcy cases in Ireland and oversees personal insolvency professionals.

He is a chartered accountant and currently Group Chief Executive Officer of CIE, Ireland’s largest public transport operator.

Mr. O’Connor has extensive multi-sector experience in debt and corporate restructuring and corporate insolvency, including 15 years at Deloitte Restructuring Services, along with previous corporate governance and governance experience.

Under Mr O’Connor’s leadership, the Insolvency Service of Ireland introduced innovative alternatives to bankruptcy, largely outside the legal system.

We look forward to welcoming Lorcan O’Connor to the Insolvency Service Board. As leader of the Irish Service he has much to contribute, especially in supporting Britain’s proposed personal bankruptcy reform programme.

We would like to welcome Lorcan to the Insolvency Service Board. His experience in corporate governance, leadership and extensive knowledge of insolvency will provide valuable expertise to the Board of Directors.

We look forward to working with Lorcan and to the undisputed contribution he will make in supporting our agency’s governance.

The responsibilities of the Board of Directors include establishing strategic objectives and ensuring that leadership and resources are in place to achieve these objectives. The Council also challenges and supports management performance and reports to the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).
