Ukrainian-born Spartaz, criticized for votes in Ukraine, faces Tuesday’s primaries

Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) — the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress — is fighting to keep her seat Tuesday against a well-funded primary challenger who has criticized her record of helping her home country in the war against Russia.

Spartaz faces a crowded field of Republican opponents after reversing her decision not to seek another term and re-entering the race earlier this year. Indiana state Rep. Chuck Goodrich stood out for self-funding his campaign with at least $4.6 million and attacking Spartz as a flip-flopper — first on her reelection plans and then on aid to Ukraine.
