Cockroaches crawling across kitchen floors and more at Upstate restaurants with worst inspections in April

South Carolina health inspectors found multiple violations at Upstate restaurants in April, from cockroaches crawling across the kitchen floor to washed plates still with food residue on them. The state releases grades and inspection reports every month for food businesses in Upstate counties.

These are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings in April.

Pho your choice at 2660 Reidville Road in Spartanburg

Pho Your Choice had an inspection on April 15 and received a C grade.

An inspector noticed cockroaches crawling across the floor and behind the oven in the kitchen.

Frozen chicken was seen thawing in a large tub on the floor. Meat was seen stored in grocery bags in the freezer. There was a buildup of grease visible under the fryer and oven. It was seen that certain foods were not kept at the correct storage temperature.

The restaurant had the mandatory follow-up inspection on April 25 and received a B grade.

Epic Buffet from East Bank at 3940 Grandview Drive in Greenville

Epic Buffet had an inspection on April 18 and received a C grade.

An inspector noticed an employee cutting a cutting board and knife at a sink without disinfectant. Salmon was also observed being used for sushi even though it was marked for cooked consumption only.

It was seen that certain foods were not kept at the correct storage temperature. It was seen that certain foods could not cool properly. A heavy build-up of dirt was seen on the floors in the kitchen and dry storage areas.

The restaurant required follow-up inspections on April 23 and May 1 and received two more C grades.

Tarascos Mexican Bar and Grill at 6119 White Horse Road in Greenville

Tarascos Mexican Bar and Grill had an inspection on April 1 and received a C grade.

An inspector observed packages of beef and pork thawing on a moving cart in the kitchen.

An employee was seen eating food with his bare hands while standing on the cooking line. It was seen that certain foods were not kept at the correct storage temperature. In the walk-in cooler, pans of shucked oysters were seen stacked on top of each other, with no protective layers between them to prevent possible contamination. Dirt accumulation was seen on the shelves.

The restaurant had the mandatory follow-up inspection on April 11 and received an A grade.

Touchdown Wing and Hibachi at 1400 W Georgia Road in Greenville

Touchdown wing and Hibachi had an inspection on April 24 and received a C grade.

An inspector observed raw chicken stored above prepared foods in the prep cooler.

It was seen that certain foods were not kept at the correct storage temperature. Medicines were seen stored on shelves of food products. Plastic shopping bags used to store food were seen. Hood filters were seen with a buildup of grease and oil.

The restaurant had the mandatory follow-up inspection on May 3 and received an A grade.

Tasty Greenwood at 1711 Bypass 72 in Greenwood

Taste Greenwood had an inspection on April 29 and received a C grade.

An inspector noticed fish being stored in stagnant water. It was also noted that the back door was open without a fly fan.

It was seen that certain foods were not kept at the correct storage temperature. The washed dishes still had accumulations of food residue.

On May 3, the restaurant had the mandatory follow-up inspection and again received a C grade. A second follow-up inspection has not yet taken place.
