Glenn “Tony” J. Merihew, 93, of Marathon, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Guthrie Cortland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Cortland, NY.

Tony was born March 12, 1931 in Freetown, NY, the son of the late James Benton and Ruby Goddard Merihew. He lived in the area all his life, was a life member and former fire chief of the Marathon Fire Department. Many years ago he belonged to the McGraw Fire Department. He was also a member of the Marathon Lion’s Club. Tony enjoyed crafting in the barns with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his animals, who were so important to him.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Joan Murray Merihew; and his daughters, Barbara (Bob) McAllister of Harford, Connie Daugherty of Marathon and Susan (Bob) Marshall of Marathon. He is also survived by a brother, Marlin “Pete” (Doris) Merihew of Marathon; a sister, Marion Barrows of Brady, Texas; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Louise Albro and Norma Salka; and brothers, Carl Merihew and Paul Merihew; and a great-grandson, Steven Larkin.

Memorial services will be held at Marathon Memorial Chapel, 4071 State Route 221, Marathon, NY on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Tom Boice officiating. Burial will be in Marathon Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
