Mercedes brake booster recall: affected ML, GL and R-Class

More than 15,600 units of the ML, GL and R-Class from model years 2006 to 2012 may experience reduced braking performance or brake failure due to corrosion of the brake booster. Moisture buildup in the brake booster housing has been identified as the main cause of this corrosion.

The affected brake booster, supplied by Continental Tire Americas, part number A1644310627, is critical to improving braking performance. It amplifies the hydraulic pressure to the master cylinder, reducing the force required to brake.

Mercedes-Benz AG launched an investigation following reports of abnormally low brake force assistance, which led to the discovery of corrosion in the brake booster. Despite no reported incidents causing accidents, property damage or injuries, Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a recall for 15,604 vehicles.

Owners are being notified of the recall and instructed to visit dealers for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the brake booster. The remedy part, without an aesthetic rubber cover around the housing, aims to restore braking performance and ensure vehicle safety.

Vehicles affected include the ML, GL and R-Class series, with various versions including the ML 320, GL 450 and R 63 AMG. This recall demonstrates Mercedes-Benz’s commitment to vehicle safety and customer satisfaction, prioritizing proactive measures to address potential safety issues.
