OpenAI launches tool to detect images created by DALL-E 3

OpenAI is launching a tool that can detect images created by text-to-image generator DALL-E 3, the Microsoft-backed startup said Tuesday amid growing concerns about the influence of AI-generated content in the global elections. this year.

The company says that in internal testing, the tool correctly identified images created by DALL-E 3 approximately 98 percent of the time and can handle common changes such as compression, cropping and saturation changes with minimal impact.

The creator of ChatGPT also plans to add tamper-resistant watermarks to mark digital content such as photos or audio with a signal that should be difficult to remove.

As part of the effort, OpenAI has also joined an industry group that includes Google, Microsoft and Adobe and plans to provide a standard that would help trace the origins of various media.

In April, amid India’s ongoing general elections, fake videos of two Bollywood actors criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral online.

The spread of AI-generated content and deepfakes are increasingly used in India and in elections elsewhere in the world, including in the US, Pakistan and Indonesia.

OpenAI said it is joining Microsoft in launching a $2 million (Rs 16 crore) ‘social resilience’ fund to support AI education.
