POS Poll: Presidential Race Heats Up in Swing States

Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris remain locked in a neck-and-neck race in five key states, according to a survey by Public Opinion Strategies (POS).

POS, which bills itself as “the most trusted pollster for Republican candidates nationwide,” found Trump ahead of Harris in Arizona (48% to 43%) and Nevada (46% to 45%), while the vice president is ahead in Pennsylvania (48% to 45%) and Wisconsin (48% to 46%).

The Republican candidate and the presumptive Democratic Party nominee are tied in Michigan, both at 45%.

In the five states, Trump and Harris each have 46% support, 4% support third-party candidates and 4% are still undecided.

The poll, which was commissioned by the Competitiveness Coalition, found that 47% of undecided voters say they are Republican, while 19% say they are Democrat, Politico reported.

People who haven’t decided are more likely to be conservative (34%) than liberal (9%) and give President Joe Biden a very poor rating (26% approve and 76% disapprove, including 38% who strongly disapprove).

The top three issues in the battleground states are the impact of inflation on the cost of living (23%), immigration and border security (17%), and threats to American democracy (16%). The only other issue in double digits is abortion (10%).

Among Republicans, 62% say immigration and border security (33%) or the impact of inflation on the cost of living (29%) is their top issue. Just 3% say abortion.

Among Democrats, the biggest issue is threats to democracy (27%), followed by the impact of inflation on the cost of living (18%) and abortion (17%). Only 3% of Democrats cite immigration and border security as their biggest issue.

The POS poll also found that a majority (56%) of voters oppose the Biden administration’s policies that have targeted big tech companies like Amazon, Apple and Google with onerous regulations and lawsuits.

64% of voters in swing states agree that breaking up big tech companies will lead to higher prices for consumers, when prices are already high due to inflation.

The POS poll was conducted July 23-29 — after Biden ended his reelection bid — among 400 likely voters in each swing state. The margin of error is plus/minus 2.19%.
