Starfield welcomes new display customization options

(Photo: Bethesda) You won’t be able to keep playing Starfield at 30 fps anymore, as Bethesda says the 60 fps update will arrive in the next two weeks, along with other in-game features.

With this update, players can look forward to several new display settings that improve visual and performance quality.

According to The Verge, gamers can choose between prioritizing high resolution, which preserves rich details in special effects, lighting and busy scenes, or opting for improved framerate performance. The latter mode reduces internal resolution and details to achieve higher fps speeds.

If you really want to game at 60fps or higher, you should set this performance setting, as per Bethesda’s recommendation.

Variable refresh rate support

Bethesda recommends using a variable refresh rate (VRR) display that can display 120Hz for the optimal experience for those with the latest settings. This setup allows players to choose from multiple framerate options, including 30, 40, 60, and even unlimited framerate, offering flexibility based on display options and personal preferences. However, players without VRR screens should be prepared for possible screen tearing but can still enjoy the benefits of the high frame rate.

Customizations seem endless in Starfield

The May 15 update isn’t just about visual improvements; it also introduces practical gameplay improvements. These include more detailed surface maps for easier navigation and exploration, new ship customization tools, and the handy addition of being able to access ship cargo directly from the player’s inventory menu.

As The Sun reports, you’ll soon be able to decorate the interiors of ships to match your preferred design. Somehow this is for aesthetics you haven’t done before in the game.

Additionally, the update brings new settings that allow players to adjust the difficulty levels for different aspects of the game, such as ground and ship combat, tailoring the challenge to each player’s preference.

Beta testing on Steam

The update is available for beta testing on PC via Steam to ensure all improvements work smoothly before the official release on Xbox Series X|S platforms.

Whatever feedback gamers provide during the beta testing will serve as Bethesda’s basis for improving the game and determining which specific modes or features to include or exclude in the future.

The game studio has exciting plans for Starfield, including the anticipated Shattered Space expansion, a new land vehicle, and official mod support. More details about these upcoming features are expected to be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9.
