Draymond Green Stunned by Dwyane Wade Miami Heat Statue Blunder – NBC Sports Bay Area and California
Draymond Green recently spoke out about the Dwyane Wade Miami Heat statue controversy.
In his podcast of the same name, Green couldn’t help but talk about the statue of Wade that was recently unveiled in front of the Kaseya Center in Miami.
“First of all, I want to congratulate D-Wade on the statue,” Green told co-host Baron Davis. “It’s one thing to retire your jersey, that’s incredible. Getting a statue is a whole other level. But we have to wonder, what were your first thoughts about the statue?
The statue has sparked controversy because it doesn’t look like the Heat legend, leading to mixed reactions on social media. Green gave his opinion on the situation and expressed his bewilderment at the process.
“I saw pictures of D-Wade looking at the face of the statue,” Green told Davis. “It’s actually on Rachel Nicholl’s social media page, if I’m not mistaken. And I have to say that the mockup of his face looks absolutely nothing like the final image.
“So everyone’s like, ‘Oh, D-Wade, he saw it, he approved it,’ but the mockup of his face looked like D-Wade. Then it looked like Tim Thomas. I don’t really understand how it could have turned out this way. My thing is, don’t they show the statue to someone before they reveal it and everyone’s like, ‘Oh yeah, who’s that guy?’ ”
Wade established himself as one of the greatest players in Heat history, winning three NBA championships and the 2006 NBA Finals MVP. The 13-time All-Star and Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer also had his No. 3 jersey retired by Miami, but he is the first player in franchise history to have a statue outside the Kaseya Center.
Expect Green to have a say in the creation of a statue in his likeness outside San Francisco’s Chase Center if the Warriors ever decide to build one. Hopefully the finished product will look like him.
