Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty’s Heisman campaign continued Friday with 180 yards and two rushing touchdowns in a 56-24 home win over San Diego State.
Jeanty rushed for 149 yards on 31 carries, while adding another 31 yards on two catches.
He got off to a slow start in the first half (15 carries, 37 yards) as San Diego State stacked the box against him. That decision left the Aztecs vulnerable on the back end, and Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen took advantage with 307 passing yards and four scores (three against Latrell Caples).
Fans pointed out SDSU’s decision.

Jeanty got rolling in the second half, scoring both of his touchdowns and running for 112 yards. Both came from four yards away, and he didn’t have to break a sweat for either.
Through eight games, Jeanty has rushed for 1,525 yards and 20 touchdowns on 190 carries (8.0 YPC). He has also caught 14 passes for 81 yards and an additional score.
And so the Jeanty Heisman hype continues after yet another fantastic game.
The first half may not have had flashy numbers, but it’s pretty tough for a running back to run through a brick wall. He still posted a 180-yard rushing game and two touchdowns for the No. 15 team in the country, which is squarely in the College Football Playoff mix.
And at this rate, Jeanty can book a flight to New York in December as a Heisman finalist.
This year’s race looks great on paper, with Colorado two-way superstar Travis Hunter, Miami quarterback Cam Ward and Oregon signal caller Dillon Gabriel all in the mix as well, but Jeanty isn’t going anywhere.

Ashton Jeanty doesn’t get the stats on the stat sheet, but make no mistake, those play-action passes are wide open because of him. The entire defense is definitely not focused on Travis Hunter. 🤷♂️#BoiseState
Jeanty and the 7-1 Broncos (4-0 in the Mountain West) now have four regular season games remaining, starting Saturday at home against Nevada.
