Conor McGregor deletes incredibly controversial tweet during Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson fight
Conor McGregor has come under fire for an incredibly insensitive, now deleted tweet.
Paul defeated Tyson via unanimous decision in a very low output fight.
Besides a good opening round in which Tyson landed some nice left hooks, ‘Iron Mike’ looked like a shadow of his former self in the ring.
That was to be expected, considering he recently celebrated his 58th birthday while his opponent is in his athletic prime at age 27, but it was still a sad sight to see.
UFC two-weight champion McGregor was one of millions of people who stayed up into the early hours of Saturday morning to watch the fight on Netflix.
And somehow he produced something even more controversial than the fight itself, in the form of a tasteless tweet.
“They are keeping an eye on Prichard Colon for the next opponent,” McGregor wrote before quickly deleting his post.
Prichard Colon is a former super welterweight boxer who was left in a vegetative state after suffering a life-changing brain hemorrhage during his fight with Terrel Williams in 2015.
Williams repeatedly hit Colon with illegal punches to the back of the head during their fight before the fight was waved off in the ninth round.
Colon had to be helped to his dressing room, where he subsequently collapsed.
He was then taken to hospital by ambulance and fell into a coma for 221 days after undergoing emergency brain surgery.
Colon has been in a persistent vegetative state since then and is unable to speak due to his injuries.
McGregor’s tweet was completely inappropriate and received a lot of backlash on social media.
One fan wrote: “What an asshole.”
Another said: “This is crazy, this man needs to be disciplined.”
A third tweeted: “You’re not joking with that Conor.”
A fourth posted: “No, this is a f***ing tweet. Crossed the line.”
Meanwhile, someone else commented: “That’s damned. I know Conor can be damned sometimes, but this is just so stupid of him to say that. Some people just really aren’t damned.” think.”
