Winter skating returns, plus 17 MA events this weekend

MASSACHUSETTS — It’s not so much about what there is to do in the Boston area and beyond, but rather what should locals do?

Welcome to Patch’s latest weekly roundup of worthwhile events in the city and surrounding areas. We’ve collected them into one easy-to-follow list, for your weekend planning.

This weekend the holiday season kicks off in full swing with two chances to hit the ice.

The ice skating rink on MarketStreet in Lynnfield will open for the eleventh year on Saturday with a grand opening party from noon to 3 p.m. featuring a live DJ, festive snacks, a hot chocolate bar, live ice sculptures and winter games.

Tickets are available here, children under 3 years old have free admission.

“We are pleased to welcome our community back to The Rink’s annual opening celebration,” said Charlotte Woods, General Manager of MarketStreet. “This event is one of our most anticipated events of the year and is the perfect way to kick off the festive season and welcome everyone for a festive outing during their Christmas shopping.”

In Foxborough, Winter Skate at Patriot Place returned Thursday with a grand opening celebration, with opportunities to skate now continuing through the end of February.

That party will continue all weekend long, starting on Friday with live DJ entertainment, exclusive coupons for restaurants at Patriot Place and a chance to win tickets to the New England Patriots’ game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

On Saturday, guests can enjoy grilling on the rink and sampling Axel & Byrne, featuring an exclusive new menu item.

“We are thrilled to have Winter Skate back at Patriot Place with a brand new concept and location that will fit a fresh patch of ice this winter,” said Brian Earley, vice president and general manager of Patriot Place.

“With a scenic skate trail and a professionally maintained surface, the updated Winter Skate will have a new look, but the same timeless tradition of outdoor skating with family and friends.”
