An approaching storm will bring weather changes to Arizona this weekend
PHOENIX (AZFamily) – Look for sunny but cooler weather in the Valley today, with an afternoon high of 73 degrees. The wind should be quite light, with some wind now and then.
Winds will be strong in other parts of the state today. A wind advisory is in effect from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in north-central, northeastern and west-central Arizona. Sustained southwesterly winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, with gusts approaching 50 miles per hour.
The strong winds are caused by a storm system falling through the Great Basin. This storm will split into two parts of energy, bringing rain and snow showers to northwestern parts of the state on Saturday and far eastern and southeastern parts of the state on Sunday into early Monday. Precipitation amounts should be light.
No rain is expected in the Valley, but a drop in temperatures is forecast. This weekend, look for morning temperatures in the upper 30s to mid 40s, with afternoon temperatures around 66 degrees on Saturday and 70 degrees on Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to remain cool early next week, but a warming trend will begin Wednesday and continue into the second half of the week.
