The PS5 Pro just got its first ever price cut and Black Friday hasn’t even started yet
Unlike the PS5 Pro, getting your hands on an original PS5 was like a game in itself. I had to join not one, but multiple Discord servers and sign up for replenishment notifications. Luckily, with the help of my sister-in-law who graciously got up at 3am every day to check on the situation, I eventually got my hands on the launch model of the Sony console and coveted it like it was my own child. Those days are largely gone and anyone looking to get their hands on the newly released PS5 Pro should have no problems aside from the eye-watering price tag. British PlayStation fans, however, seem to have an easier time with that.
Not only is the PS5 Pro easy to get your hands on, but now it is £659 at EEa whole £40 off the recommended retail price of £700. A difference of just £40 might not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but this brand new price cut comes just a week after the console was released. Usually, big brands like Sony like to wait before lowering the prices of their shiny new technology. To put things into perspective, the PS5 Slim didn’t get its first discount until four months after release, when both the disc and digital editions saw a huge £70 price cut.
Now anyone in the UK who wants to upgrade can save 7% off without waiting for months on end. Argos had originally joined the promotion and also reduced the price of the console to £659, but it has since risen again to £689.99. Luckily, as part of the early Black Friday PS5 deals, the PS5 Pro is still £40 off on the EE Store, but only for a limited time. Since we’re already well into November, there’s no telling how long this new PS5 Pro UK price will be active. But it’s definitely one of the best early Black Friday PS5 deals I’ve seen yet.

Should you buy the PS5 Pro?
I still love my launch model PS5 as much as I did on day one, but I’ve been eyeing a replacement for a while now. To be completely honest, it’s the PS5 Slim Disc Edition that has caught my attention, but I have to admit it’s hard to ignore the PS5 Pro with this new price drop.
The newly released PS5 Pro does not come with the option of a disc version. Instead, as with the Slim Digital Edition model, you’ll need to grab the PS5 disc drive to play your physical PS5 games. Outside of the games I collected through PS Plus Premium, my entire game collection consists of physical copies. I even imported a physical copy of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, as we never got one here in the UK. But the cheaper the new pixel-pushing machine is, the more money will be available for the PS5 Disc Drive, completely solving that problem.
For the digital games I own, with the OG PS5’s tiny 825GB, I feel like I spend more time freeing up space on the console than actually playing anything. Online games like Fortnite currently take up 99.23 GB of space, and I feel like the storage requirements are increasing. I could buy one of the top PS5 SSDs and upgrade my console, but the PS5 Pro has 2TB from the start, which is attractive. With that amount of space, I would probably buy fewer physical games and free up space in my house that used to be devoted to stacks of game boxes.
The main difference between the Pro and Slim models is of course the graphical upgrades. Our own Tabitha Baker showed them off in her PS5 Pro review, but I’m not sure I’d even notice them. My PS5 is in the living room and the TV is mounted so far away from the wall that I wouldn’t be able to see much difference. However, I’m considering putting a PS5 in my bedroom. In a household with two PlayStation fans, finding time for the console can be a challenge. If a game is in any way associated with Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, I can rest assured that my time on the PS5 will come to an end in the near future. But having a PS5 Pro at my bedside would not only mean I could play Dead by Daylight in the comfort of my bed, but it would also be close enough to take full advantage of the ray tracing boosts and new performance upgrades appreciate.
This price drop on the new PS5 Pro in the UK has certainly made me weigh my options. I was previously determined to buy the Slim model, but at £40 off, which would take up a large chunk of the PS5 drive, it’s hard to ignore how great an early Black Friday deal the PS5 Pro is now is.
