Utah football was bitten by the quarterback during the 2024 college football season.
The Utes already had three quarterbacks behind them in Saturday’s game against Travis Hunter and No. 20 Colorado, but were able to play without the services of a fourth: Isaac Wilson. On Friday night, former Colorado coach Ron McBride said on a radio program that Wilson would not be available Saturday due to “an illness” against the Buffaloes.
If Wilson were to miss the game, fourth-string QB Luke Bottari, who was listed as Wilson’s backup this week, would earn the start.
Here’s the latest on Wilson’s status, with Utah playing Colorado at Folsom Field on Saturday at noon ET (9 a.m. MT):
Isaac Wilson injury update
12:14 pm: Isaac Wilson indeed deserves the start for the Utes despite falling ill.
11:43 PM Max Olson of The Athletic reports that Wilson is suiting up and has been doing first-team reps during warm-ups.
According to Bryan Fischer of Sports Illustrated, despite questions surrounding his playing status for Saturday vs. Colorado, the field and warmed up with his teammates.
Utah has already lost Cam Rising and Sam Huard to season-ending injuries. Brandon Rose, who made his first career start against BYU last week, was injured last week and required surgery, which will also keep him out for the rest of the season.
Wilson, a freshman, initially replaced Rising as starter after the senior’s injury. He has thrown for 1,200 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions this season. Wilson – the younger brother of NFL QB Zach Wilson – was benched during a 17-14 loss to Houston on Oct. 26.
