Can Red One’s Opening Weekend Box Office Go Green?

Red saw yellow during production, but since the film premiered in theaters this weekend, it might take more than just asparagus to get this film in the green. Term reports that the holiday action film starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans is estimated to gross $30 million in its opening weekend, up from its budget of at least $200 million. However, it does quite well for a movie made by a streamer, surpassing Apple’s Killers of the Flower Moon‘s opening weekend. Red is on track to become the highest-grossing movie of the weekend, and in a few weeks Johnson can say he was cooking up two No. 1 films when Moana 2 will be released in theaters later this month. What if Amazon Studios is working on a feature-length holiday game? Red? It’s still November and maybe people aren’t ready for Christmas yet and we don’t know yet if this movie will be in the holiday movie rotation for years to come. At least this year it will have a second streaming life, with Amazon able to add ads before playing the film for subscribers.
