Houston singer Sundance Head is in stable condition after being shot in the stomach
A Porter singer who rose to fame for his appearances on “American Idol” and “The Voice” is recovering after being shot in the stomach.
Sundance Head – whose real name is Jason Head – was taken to a hospital by Life Flight after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach area. He was scheduled to undergo immediate surgery after landing, but doctors determined the bullet did not need to be removed, as reported by Misty Head, his wife, on Facebook.
“I’m sure she said why (the bullet wasn’t removed), but my head is in a fog right now. Being on the larger side was a good thing. The bullet is lodged in his fatty tissue,” the report said.
Misty added that the bullet entered above his marine and lodged in his abdominal wall, saving him from injury to his vital organs.
She also thanked fans and supporters for prayers during the terrifying experience.
Sundance Head officer Trey Newman provided KPRC 2 with the following statement regarding the circumstances of the injury:
Sundance Head is recovering from a gunshot wound to the stomach/navel area at a hospital in Tyler, Texas after being flown from his ranch while hunting. The bullet is lodged in a fatty part of the stomach and no surgery is planned at this time. He is stable and we are awaiting further details of this accident. At this time we have no information on how exactly it happened, but we are 100% sure that it was not self-inflicted. The family asks everyone to keep Sundance in their prayers.
The Porter native was a semifinalist on the sixth season of American Idol in 2007. He then won season 11 of The Voice in 2016, as a member of Team Blake Shelton.
