Sundance Head, winner of ‘The Voice’, was shot by a bullet on his Texas ranch

Country singer Sundance Head, who won Season 11 of “The Voice,” was wounded by a bullet at his Texas ranch on Friday, his agent said.

Head, 46, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler, Officer Trey Newman said in a statement. He was released late Friday and was back home, according to a post on his verified Facebook page Saturday.

The bullet lodged in a fatty part of Head’s stomach, Newman said. Head’s wife, Misty, said on the Facebook page that surgery would not be necessary.

The bullet, described by the page as a bullet from his .22 firearm, could have caused serious damage if it had hit the area of ​​his body just outside the wound profile, according to Saturday’s statement.

“I’m posting a picture of his shirt so you can all see how lucky he was,” the statement read. “Any higher or lower would have been devastating.”

It added: “No internal damage was caused by the bullet. Thank you all for the prayers.”

The page described the shooting as an accident.

Newman said Friday that the bullet may have come from the errant gunfire of a nearby hunter, but Head’s Facebook page later said he had retrieved his own firearm from his vehicle when it “came out of his holster and the outside of the Jeep hit just right and went off.”

“Sundance said it happened so quickly and he could see the bullet dislodge,” the statement said.

The singer didn’t have his phone in his pocket, so “he ran down the driveway to the main road to flag down a car for help,” the post said.

Head flagged down several vehicles before one stopped, turned around and eventually contacted first responders on his behalf, the statement said.

A spokesman for the Smith County Sheriff’s Office did not respond to a request for more information Friday.

Head was coached by Blake Shelton when he won “The Voice” in 2016. He toured with Shelton the following year, released an album in 2022 — one of four in his career — and returned to the show last year for Shelton’s farewell. according to his show biography.
