The second part of season 5 of “Yellowstone” premiered last Sunday night, and the fate of Kevin Costner’s character was revealed relatively quickly.
The episode began with emergency crews at the mansion of Governor John Dutton (Costner). His daughter, Beth (Kelly Reilly), screams for emergency services at the governor’s mansion, followed by her brother Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). The two push through the police tape to see what is going on, but see a gun on the bathroom floor and blood. Although the camera never shows John’s face, you can see his body sprawled on the ground and the distraught look on his children’s faces.
But the actor himself was not among the countless Americans who tuned in for the highly anticipated premiere.
“I haven’t seen it,” Costner told SiriusXM’s “The Michael Smerconish Program” on Monday. “I’m going to be completely honest. I didn’t know it aired last night. That is a moment of swearing to God. I swear to God. I’ve seen ads with my face everywhere and I think, ‘Gosh, that’s not me.’ I won’t be there this season.”
Costner has played Dutton since the Paramount Network premiere in 2018, but announced in June that he would not return for what were billed as the final episodes.

New episodes air Sunday nights at 8PM ET/PT on Paramount Network.
You won’t be able to stream “Yellowstone” episodes on Paramount+, the platform has announced, and it won’t be available with any of the service’s subscription plans. If you have a login with your TV provider, you can sign up for the Paramount Network and watch that way.

Beth Dutton will suffer a ‘hurricane’ to avenge John Dutton
In an interview with USA TODAY, Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, said John Dutton’s most loyal descendants will be devastated by her father’s soon-to-be revealed dark fate.
‘There’s only so much a woman can take. He is the center of her soul,” Reilly said. ‘What is that going to do to this woman? It will turn her into a hurricane.”
Reilly said she’s known how “Yellowstone” would end since the show began in 2018. Costner’s premature departure has not fundamentally changed that course. “It shouldn’t have happened so quickly,” she said. “But the fact that we were able to poetically return to the authentic vision of the show is satisfying.”
