Flood risk and little serious threat with weather maker on Tuesday
MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — We’ll keep an eye on the potential for flooding as our next weather maker arrives late at night. This weather maker is a front that will tap into tropical moisture from the remnants of Sara and bring rounds of soaking rain showers tonight through Tuesday evening. The forecast calls for 3 to 5 centimeters of rain, with up to 19 centimeters possible in some isolated locations. We are also at a marginal risk (level 1 out of 5) of severe weather, with the main threats being damaging winds and an isolated tornado.
A coastal flood warning is in effect from 6pm tonight until 6am on Tuesday. A High Surf Advisory is in effect from 9pm tonight until 6pm on Wednesday. Large breaking waves of four to six feet are expected in the surf zone. An advisory for small vessels is in force for our coastal waters from 6 p.m. tonight until 6 a.m. Wednesday. Conditions will be dangerous for small craft with southerly winds of 20 to 25 knots with gusts up to 30 knots and seas reaching 6 to 7 feet.
Today skies will be partly sunny with highs around 80 degrees. The southeasterly wind gusts up to 20 km/h. The onshore wind flow will continue to increase moisture levels, making a brief shower possible. Tuesday will be cloudy with widespread showers and thunderstorms as the front rolls through. Highs will remain in the upper 70s due to rain-cooled air and additional cloud cover. Thanks to this system, cooler and drier air quickly flows into the area. We’ll wake up Wednesday in the upper 50s with highs in the low 70s.
It will be much cooler on Wednesday night, because another flow of cold air will descend to the south. We’ll wake up in the 40s on Thursday and top out in the lower 60s. We will continue that trend until Friday. For the coming weekend, lows will remain in the 40s, with highs reaching the upper 60s.
The rip current risk will be HIGH on the beach until mid-week. Always check the flags before entering the water!
