Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy, see flights to New Orleans | News
Spirit Airlines said Monday it will file for bankruptcy protection, following a drop in travel during the pandemic and losses after its proposed merger with JetBlue fell through earlier this year, the Associated Press reported.
Spirit offers more than twenty flights from Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans to destinations such as Orlando, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Seattle and New York. International destinations from New Orleans Airport include San Jose, Costa Rica; Medellin, Colombia; and Cancun, Mexico.
In a statement Monday, Spirit president and CEO Ted Christie described the Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization as a “proactive step” and said it would not impact cardholders or the loyalty program.
“You can continue to book and fly now and in the future,” Christe wrote. “We also want to assure you that you can use all tickets, credits and loyalty points as normal.”
