Country music star Jamey Johnson arrested for drug possession and speeding in Tennessee

Country music star Jamey Johnson was arrested this weekend in Tennessee’s Williamson County.
The 49-year-old hitmaker was taken into custody for drug possession and speeding, according to News Channel 5 in Nashville.
The Alabama songwriter — who has written for country legends like Willie Nelson — was released from jail Monday after posting $5,000 bail.
“We can confirm that Jamey Johnson was arrested in Williamson County on Sunday, November 17th. The incident remains under investigation,” the Tennessee Highway Patrol said in a statement.
The district attorney’s office that oversees Williamson County confirmed the arrest but would not confirm the charges.
That Lonesome Song crooner released Midnight Gasoline, his first album in more than a decade, just over a week ago.

Prior to the album’s release, he dropped the songs ’21 Guns’ and ‘Sober’.
Sober discusses the challenges of maintaining sobriety in an industry where drinking is widespread.
“I’ve been mad, I’ve been drunk / I’ve been so high I can’t tell it from up to down / But lately I’ve been working on / I’m trying to get my feet back on the ground,” he sings in the first verse.
He goes on to sing, “It ain’t easy on the wagon / I’ve gone more crazy than I found / All these drinking songs we play / Make it hard to stay sober in this town.”
He promoted the song on his Instagram, writing, “For those struggling with sobriety, I understand. This is down to earth.”
“Sober is about how hard it is to stay sober in a city that glorifies drinking and other forms of debauchery — not just that, but somehow in virtually every song in country music,” he said in a speech . press release at the time.
“It’s about how hard it is to stay sober as a songwriter in the presence of it.”
‘I’ve been sober for 13 years now. I haven’t had a drop of alcohol since 2011, and I know that could end this afternoon,” Johnson continued.
‘It’s a day-by-day, hour-by-hour decision. Most of the places I play are bars, or I still hang out in bars. That’s where most of my friends are. Now I can hang out in it and not drink like I used to. That’s what ‘Sober’ is about.’
Johnson’s 2006 debut single, The Dollar, launched his career in country music.

The country star has also served as a songwriter for several prominent artists, including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, George Strait, Jessie James Decker, Trace Adkins and more.
Johnson is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
