Live Monday Night Football Updates

play

The Dallas Cowboys entered Week 11 once again short-handed and looking for a way to avoid their fifth straight loss. Instead, they left the night with another ugly performance, this time against a domestic rival on a national stage, losing 34-10.

However, the Cowboys were able to move the ball more than the week before, but the offense was unable to capitalize enough to threaten the Texans, compiling only 10 points despite totaling 381 yards of offense.

Dallas had 24 total first downs, and Cooper Rush was able to pass the ball more efficiently this week than last week, throwing for 354 yards on 32 of 55 passes. However, some of it was due to padding the time stats, and it wasn’t enough to get a win as a nightmare of a season continued.

With injuries to tight end Jake Feruson and three offensive linemen, Tyler Guyton, Zack Martin and Tyler Smith, the Cowboys have continued the trend of having trouble keeping their starters on the field.

For the Texans, they tallied 21 first downs, five scoring drives and one defensive touchdown, as quarterback CJ Stroud finished the night 23-for-34 with 257 yards.

Running back Joe Mixon had a big night, finishing with 109 rushing yards and three touchdowns as the Cowboys continued their defensive struggles.

Dallas’ fifth straight loss pushes the Cowboys to 3-7, and questions surrounding head coach Mike McCarthy and his status within the organization continue to mount ahead of a quick turnaround and a matchup against division foe Washington Commanders.

The 7-4 Texans also have a short week to prepare for the Tennessee Titans.

Cowboys vs. Texans Updates

Joe Mixon continues his great night, adding his third touchdown of the night to put Houston ahead of the Cowboys 34-10.

Just as Dallas found some rhythm on offense and looked to break the Texans’ lead early in the final quarter, defensive lineman Derek Barnett was able to scoop up a fumble and go a long way to push Houston’s lead to 27. 10.

A 10-play, 65-yard drive stalled in the red zone, resulting in a 29-yard Fairbairn field goal that gave the Texans a 20-10 lead just after midway through the third quarter.

It wasn’t clean defensively for Dallas and they had trouble finding consistency on offense, but they battled in the first half. An eight-play, 35-yard drive stalled at midfield before kicker Brandon Aubrey made a 53-yard field goal to cut the Texans’ lead to 17-10.

After giving up the rushing touchdown, the Texans respond with a field goal to push their lead back to double digits. Kicker Kai’mi Fairbairn smashes through a 33-yard effort to give them the 17-7 lead.

Just when things were looking bleak for Dallas, the Cowboys offense struck back with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cooper Rush to KaVontae Turpin to cut the deficit to 14-7.

Joe Mixon was early when the Texans running back got his second touchdown of the opening quarter. This time it was a 10-play, 63-yard possession, capped by a one-yard Mixon touchdown run, that gave Houston the 14-0 lead.

The Cowboys’ defensive struggles continue as the Texans score with relative ease on the game’s opening possession. The six-play, 77-yard drive was capped by a 45-yard touchdown run by Joe Mixon.

Cowboys vs Texans predictions

ESPN: Only Dan Graziano was brave enough to pick the Cowboys on Monday night, while the rest of the ESPN NFL pundits took the Texans.

CBS Sports: There was a little more optimism about Dallas’ chances at CBS Sports, but the majority is still rolling on the Texans on Monday night.

Tony Catalina, Austin American statesman: The Dallas Cowboys are going nowhere fast this season, and it’s been tough to watch. There isn’t a single game for the rest of the year, people should feel comfortable picking them, and if they’re up against a good Texans team, things could get ugly. Texans 31, Cowboys 13.

Cedric Golden, Austin American statesman: While Houston regains its position in the AFC South, Dallas continues its downward spiral. Texans 34, Cowboys 17.
