Larry Correll, Sr. Obituary –

Larry G. Correll, Sr., of Bradenton, FL, formerly of Slatington, Walnutport and Macungie, PA and Sarasota, FL, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Tidewell Hospice – Lakewood Ranch. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Schneck) Correll, who passed away last December. Born in Slatington on April 23, 1941, he was the son of the late Clifford and Leonora (Beers) Correll. Larry received his American Bankers Association Stonier Diploma from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University in 1978. He spent his entire career in the banking industry, working for Merchants Bankcorp, and was named Executive Vice President in 1987. He retired from First Union Corp. in 1993. Larry served on the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of Allentown and as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lehigh County Chapter of the American Red Cross. He also served as chairman of the Sixth Street Shelter operating committee, a member of the Allentown – Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Bank Administration Institute and American Bankers Association. Larry also served as vice president of the Eastern PA Clearing House Association.

He will be lovingly remembered by a daughter: Clarissa “Chris” and her husband Keith Gross; grandchildren: Chad, Heather, Laura; great-grandchildren: Alivia, Kaden, Heidi, Dominic, Octavia; sister: Lorelei Jones, along with nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Larry Correll, II.

Known only to a few of his professional colleagues, Larry was called “Welsh Boy Soprano” and “The Boy Gospel Singer” as a young boy in the Lehigh Valley. He has performed throughout Eastern PA, as well as at Univ. of Pittsburgh, along with assignments in NJ, MD and DE.

Private family services will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Slatington. No public calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Harding Funeral Home, Slatington.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lehigh County Chapter of the American Red Cross or to the Sixth Street Shelter in Allentown, both in PA.
