The city greenlights funding for a safer, walkable Zarzamora Street on the southwest side

As local residents waited at bus stops in the rain or walked and cycled under cloudy skies, a plan was developed to make an 11-kilometre stretch of busy Zarzamora Street safer.

The City Council on Thursday signed two agreements for the Zarzamora Corridor Pedestrian Improvement Project, the first with VIA Metropolitan Transit, which will contribute financing for the project.

The council also approved a $5 million payment to a contractor who will oversee the work, which will begin in the coming months.
