OU basketball will have a point guard transfer commitment

Just when OU men’s basketball was once again experiencing bad luck after losing freshman Kaden Cooper to the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, coach Porter Moser and the Sooners have returned with a major acquisition.

Former High Point University guard Duke Miles is moving to Oklahoma, he told On3 Sports on Friday. It says something that the Montgomery, Alabama native chose OU over his other finalist, home program Auburn.

For the 6-foot-1, 182-pound Miles, you have one year of eligibility remaining. He started his career at Troy and played there for three seasons before transferring to High Point.

During the 2023-2024 season, Miles started 27 of 33 games for High Point, averaging 17.5 points and 3.6 assists per game, along with 2.4 rebounds. He scored a season-high 32 points in a November game against Hofstra.

Miles finished second in the Big South Conference in scoring and was named Newcomer of the Year and All-Conference First Team.

OU’s projected 2024-2025 roster is finally starting to come together. Miles is the fourth player the Sooners have added, following guards Kobe Elvis (Dayton), Jadon Jones (Long Beach State) and Brycen Goodine (Fairfield).

However, Moser still has two open scholarships to use. Oklahoma needs a backup center and there is room for another guard as well.

It would be a major coup if the Sooners could land Seton Hall guard Kadary Richmond to pair with Miles and their other guards. Richmond, the No. 1 available player in the transfer portal, will visit Norman on Friday, according to 247Sports.

Coming out of Robert E. Lee High School, Miles was a zero-star recruit and had just three offers. But he has clearly developed into an accomplished scorer at the college level and should play an integral role in OU’s backcourt next season.
