Keanu Reeves hasn’t turned down a ‘woke’ movie offer from Marvel. It’s satire

Likeable actor Keanu Reeves stars in the “John Wick” film series, with the latest film coming out in 2023 and another expected in 2025.

Is he working on this franchise instead of another, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

A recent Facebook post from an account that misleadingly used the US News & World Report logo claims that Reeves refused to work with Marvel and took a stand against “wokeness.”

“Breaking,” said the May 1 message. “Keanu Reeves Rejects Marvel’s $1.7 Billion ‘Woke’ Movie Offer, Says ‘Woke Mind Virus Must Be Destroyed.'”

The Facebook account – “US News” – is not affiliated with US News & World Report. We didn’t find a story on the news outlet’s site about Reeves turning down a Marvel movie over woke concerns.

Two articles on the US News site mention both Reeves and Marvel. One is about video games in 2023. The other, from 2014, references a DC Comics character that inspired a 2005 Reeves film.

In the comments on the Facebook post, the US News account wrote “Keanu will never wake up” and linked to a May 2 post on a website that repeated the Facebook post’s claims.

But the same story appeared about a month earlier on another self-proclaimed satire site, on April 1. Here the story was clearly marked as ‘satire’.

We rate claims that Reeves turned down a “woke” movie offer from Marvel as False.
