O’Bannon relay teams shine at North State

The O’Bannon High School track team had some great results Saturday at the MHSAA 2A North State Track Meet in Winona, with several athletes qualifying for next week’s state track meet.

The Greenwave relay teams in particular did well.

The O’Bannon Boys 4X800 team of Dwan McNeil, Perez Crutchfield, Jeremiah Berry and Mikeal Watson took first place at the meet.

O’Bannon head coach Charles Moore said this relay team has gotten stronger every year and has a good chance to win the state championship next Monday in Pearl, Mississippi.

On Saturday, the relay team finished nine seconds ahead of second-place Leflore County with a time of 9:04.

“They were just so far ahead of everyone else. They ran really well,” coach Moore said.

The O’Bannon 4X400 girls team also qualified for the state meet by finishing in fourth place at North State. This team consists of Breanna Caldwell, Halo White, Elaynah Morey and Khylay Brewer.

Individually, the Greenwaves also achieved some top finishes, including Kameron Jones who finished first in the 800 Meter Run.

O’Bannon distance runner Jordan McCullum also qualified for state by finishing third in the 3200 meters and second in the 1600 meters.

O’Bannon’s Dorenlius Tiney finished third in the 200-meter dash.
